From
the desk of Rabbi Perry Tirschwell
Regards from LA! Executive Director Shimmie Kaminetsky,
Board Member Dr. Hindy Rubin and I were participants in what was
billed as the first ever conference for all the Jewish day schools
in North America. Much of the program focussed on finding additional
funds for the rapidly growing number of schools. Thank you to the
Partnership for Excellence in Jewish Education (PEJE), a mega
foundation, for organizing and subsidizing this momentous event.
It is my pleasure to officially welcome Mrs. Amy Horowitz
as the teacher of the a sophomore and senior English class. Mrs.
Horowitz, who has a Masters in English Education from Columbia
University, has been an integral part of our faculty. She has served
as yearbook advisor, hosted students for countless shabbatot in her
role as Rabbi Horowitz' better half, and accompanied our students on
trips to the Ukraine, Virginia, and beyond.
Next Friday, February 15, is the deadline for submitting the
re-registration and course selection forms to the office.
Just a click away in our Quick Link section to the right is an
updated YHS 2003-4 Calendar, which includes the dates of
Winter Vacation that were decided this week in New York.
Another Quick Link goes to a copy of next month's lunch
menu. Orders are due February 21.
Shabbat Shalom

Solidarity Program a Big Hit at YHS |
|
On Wednesday we kicked off an exciting
project which is being embarked upon by yeshiva high schools
throughout the country in solidarity with our brothers and
sisters in Israel. Students signed up to study mishnayot,
mussar, or most anything else to be a part of L'Maan Achai
(for the sake of my brethern). The optional shiurim given
during breakfast, the mid morning break and lunch attracted
over half the students.
